The Mods tab of a Fabric server: the mods added by hand, what friends need of each, and Share with friends.

From zero to modded in three steps.

New server's first step: the server types, with what each runs.

1Pick a server type

Paper and Purpur run plugins; Fabric, Quilt, NeoForge and Forge run mods.

New server's modpacks: each pack's loader, Minecraft version, number of mods and the memory it needs.

2Add a modpack or add-ons

See what's inside and how much memory it needs, first.

Share with friends: one link to a page with the server's mods.

3Send friends the pack

One link gives them a file for the Modrinth App or Prism Launcher.

One search across Modrinth and Hangar

Picked by Playkeeper shows a few favourites before you type.

The add-on library: Picked by Playkeeper, then the most downloaded plugins that work on the server.

Modpacks show what's inside first

Memory, mods and what friends do, before anything installs.

A modpack's details over New server: what's inside and what friends do.

Voice chat, maps and pre-generation

Curated add-ons set up their own ports and settings.

Adding proximity voice chat: Playkeeper opens its UDP port and says to open it in the provider's firewall too.

Friends get the same mods

A page lists what they need, with steps for their launcher.

The page friends open: the pack file and steps for the Modrinth App and Prism Launcher.

Updates you can trust

Every file must match its published checksum. Updates wait for a restart you choose.

The Plugins tab: where each plugin comes from and whether it's up to date, with an update waiting for LuckPerms.

What it doesn't do

  • No BedrockMinecraft: Java Edition only.
  • No single mods from CurseForgeCurseForge brings whole modpacks; single mods come from Modrinth.
  • No client-only mods on the serverThey stay in your friends' launchers.

Questions

Do friends need to install mods?

For mods and modpacks, yes, the same ones as the server: the share link gives them a file for the Modrinth App or Prism Launcher. Plugins need nothing on their side.

Which modpacks work?

Modrinth and CurseForge packs for Minecraft 1.21 and newer, on Fabric, Quilt, NeoForge and Forge. Each pack shows what it needs before you create the server.

Do I need a CurseForge key?

No. Playkeeper has one built in. You can add your own free key under Settings › Add-on sources.

Can I add a mod that isn't in a library?

Yes: drag its file into the mods folder on the server's Files tab. The Mods tab lists it, and if a library recognises it, Playkeeper can take it over so it gets updates. Adding mods to a server goes step by step.

Your server is one command away.
