How to make an ATM9 server (All the Mods 9)

Updated 28 Sep 2026 · 4 min read

The short answer

An ATM9 server runs Forge 47.4.0 on Minecraft 1.20.1 with Java 17, puts 418 mods on the server and needs about 8 GB of memory. Use ATM's own server files, or let Playkeeper install version 1.1.1 from CurseForge. Playkeeper runs Minecraft 1.20.1 from version 0.4.4.

Version 1.1.1, from 12 Oct 2025, is still ATM9's newest: the team's new releases go to All the Mods 10 now. On 28 Sep, a server made from its template on the published 0.4.4 loaded all 418 mods and its log said Done (47.086s)!.

2How much memory ATM9 needs

Playkeeper suggests 8 GB for its 418 mods, which gives Java 4.6 GB. ATM's server files ask for more: their user_jvm_args.txt starts Java at 4 GB and lets it grow to 8 GB, with Forge and the mods needing memory beside that.

  • For a few friends, 8 GB is what New server offers.
  • For 5 or more, the sizing guide gives a big modpack 24 GB.

3The one-click way

Playkeeper runs your server on a VPS you rent. Install it with one command:

curl -fsSL https://playkeeper.io/install | sudo sh
  1. Open the template below, or search New server › A modpack

Either way it's ATM9 1.1.1 from CurseForge, with Forge and the memory it needs.

  2. Create and start it

Playkeeper downloads the pack's 1.2 GB, taking its mods from ATM's 1.1 GB server files and checking each file against CurseForge's hash.

  3. Send friends the pack

Share with friends on the Mods tab makes a page with the pack's version and their launcher's steps.

New server, starting from a modpack: the most downloaded packs, each with its loader, Minecraft version, mods and the memory it needs.

4What the server files decide

ATM's server files are the pack as its team runs it: 418 mods, all inside a folder called Server-Files-1.1.1. Playkeeper follows them both ways:

  • What they have goes on the server, including mods CurseForge lets only its own app download. Each is checked against the SHA-1 CurseForge lists for it.
  • What they leave out stays off, even when the pack lists it. Mekalus, a shader mod for players' games, stopped ATM9's first start until Playkeeper learned this.

5By hand, with ATM's server files

Download Server-Files-1.1.1.zip (1.1 GB) from the pack's files on CurseForge. Its start script installs Forge 47.4.0 the first time it runs.

# Java 17, then the server files in ./Server-Files-1.1.1
sudo apt install -y openjdk-17-jre-headless unzip
unzip Server-Files-1.1.1.zip && cd Server-Files-1.1.1
echo "eula=true" > eula.txt
ATM9_RESTART=false sh startserver.sh # installs Forge, then starts
  • Memory is in user_jvm_args.txt: -Xmx8G is the most Java may take, so the machine needs more than that.
  • Restarts: the script starts the server again 10 seconds after it stops, unless ATM9_RESTART is false.
  • Java: anything older than 17 stops it with "Minecraft 1.20.1 requires Java 17". ATM9_JAVA picks another Java.

On a new server the script also writes allow-flight=true, so flying items don't get players kicked, and max-tick-time=180000, so one long tick doesn't stop the server. Playkeeper leaves these to you: set them in server.properties on the Files tab.

6Friends join with the same version

Players install All the Mods 9 1.1.1 in the CurseForge app or Prism Launcher, then join your server's address. A player on another version is turned away with a list of the mods that don't match.

In Playkeeper, Share with friends on the Mods tab makes a page with the pack's version and their launcher's steps.

The page friends open: the server's versions, the pack file to download and their launcher's steps.

Questions

How much RAM does an ATM9 server need?

8 GB for a few friends, what Playkeeper suggests for its 418 mods. Give 5 or more friends 24 GB.

Is ATM9 Forge or NeoForge?

Forge. Version 1.1.1 runs Forge 47.4.0 on Minecraft 1.20.1.

Which Java does an ATM9 server need?

Java 17. ATM's start script stops on anything older, and Playkeeper runs the server on Java 17 for you.

Where are the ATM9 server files?

On the pack's CurseForge page, under its files: Server-Files-1.1.1.zip, 1.1 GB. Playkeeper doesn't need them from you.

Should I host ATM9 or ATM10?

The one your friends play. ATM9 is on Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge, ATM10 on 1.21.1 and NeoForge, and new versions now go to ATM10.
